About the BICO project
BICO — the Bike Integrated Community — is Europe's Living Mobility Intelligence Ecosystem, helping cities turn active-mobility investment into measurable, evidence-based change.
What BICO does
BICO is a European mobility intelligence ecosystem that helps cities make evidence-based decisions for sustainable active mobility. The platform combines a citizen and territorial discovery service, a network of twelve Living Mobility Labs, a mobility intelligence layer and a city decision support system into a single working environment. By bringing behavioural, mobility and health-related data together, BICO shows not only how people move, but why they change behaviour and which interventions actually shift everyday travel from cars to cycling and walking. The platform is a TRL 7 operational prototype, validated in real urban conditions across Europe.
Who BICO is for
BICO is built for everyone who shapes urban mobility. City administrators and planners use it to plan, compare and justify active-mobility investments with measurable outcomes. Living Lab managers coordinate local pilots, co-creation events and field validation. Researchers analyse behavioural and mobility data, while industry and technology partners contribute sensing, IoT and AI-powered analytics. Citizens and communities also take part, mapping routes and sharing lived mobility experience that feeds directly into the intelligence layer.
Who builds BICO
The project is built by a nine-partner European consortium coordinated by World Gastronomy Network Kft., working with research organisations such as CERTH, the Urban Cycling Institute, the Dutch Cycling Embassy and the University “St. Kliment Ohridski” – Bitola, municipalities including the City of Winterthur, and technology and innovation partners such as Signalton Technology, Innowise and Syntezia. Together they operate twelve Living Mobility Labs across nine European countries — from Rotterdam and Grand Paris to Thessaloniki, Brno, Timiș and Bitola.
